Chart Guide

Overview

Bar charts are the most versatile chart type. They display a metric (P&L, Win Rate, Trade Count, etc.) grouped by a dimension (day, symbol, tag, hour, etc.). Bars can be vertical or horizontal depending on the grouping.

Available Metrics

• P&L - Net profit/loss per group
• Win Rate - Percentage of winning trades
• Trade Count - Number of trades per group
• Avg Win / Avg Loss - Average winning/losing trade size
• Profit Factor - Gross profit ÷ gross loss
• Expectancy - Average $ per trade
• Max Drawdown - Largest peak-to-trough drop
• Hold Time - Average trade duration
• Volume - Total contracts traded

Available Groupings (X-axis)

• Daily - One bar per trading day
• Weekday - Monday through Friday
• Hourly - Hour of day (in your timezone)
• Hold Time - Average trade duration
• Symbol - Per instrument (ES, NQ, CL, etc.)
• Tag Type - Any custom tag type

Orientation

• Vertical - Default for Daily, Weekday, Hourly, Symbol, Account
• Horizontal - Default for Hold Time, Symbol, Tag Type (better label readability)

Configuration Options

• Show None bar - Show/hide "none" bar, when grouped by tag type

Best for: Daily P&L, Win Rate by symbol, Trade count by hour, Volume by account, Setup tag comparison

Overview

The equity curve - running total of profit/loss over time. This is the primary chart for tracking account growth trajectory and identifying drawdown periods.

• Group By - Account or account groups (shows multiple equity curves)

Best for: Overall account health, long-term consistency, drawdown monitoring

Overview

Three-dimensional scatter plot for finding relationships between three variables. Each dot represents a trade (or aggregated group). Use rotation and zoom to explore clusters.

Axis Configuration

• X Axis - Day of Week, Time of Day, Tag Type, P&L, Contract Count, Hold Time, Points, Account
• Y Axis - Day of Week, Time of Day, Tag Type, P&L, Contract Count, Hold Time, Points, Account
• Z Axis - P&L, Contract Count, Hold Time, Points, Tag Type, Account
• Tag Type axes allow selecting a specific tag (Setup, Entry, or any custom tag type)

Visual Dimensions

• Bubble Size - P&L, Contract Count, Hold Time, Points
• Bubble Color - P&L, Contract Count, Hold Time, Points, Tag Type
• Color by Tag Type uses the tag's assigned color

Best for: Finding complex multi-factor patterns, visualizing trade clusters, identifying sweet spots across 3+ dimensions

Overview

Calendar-style heatmap showing daily metrics across months. Each cell is a trading day colored by the metric value. Quickly spot daily patterns, streaks, and anomalies.

Available Metrics

• P&L - Net profit/loss per day (green/red)
• Trade Count - Number of trades
• Win Rate - Percentage of winning trades
• Profit Factor - Ratio of gross profit to gross loss
• Avg Hold Time - Average duration of trades
• Expectancy - Average expected return per trade
• Volume - Total contracts traded

Configuration Options (Gear Icon)

• Metric - P&L, Win Rate, Volume, Trade Count, etc.
• Orientation - Vertical or Horizontal

Best for: Daily P&L calendar view, spotting winning/losing streaks, seasonal patterns

Every chart in Gainway is configurable. Click the gear icon on any chart to open its settings panel.

Common options (all chart types):

• Group By - Symbol, Tag, Account, Weekday, Hour

Type-specific options:

• Bar Charts: Metric, Group By, Bar Orientation
• Cumulative P&L: P&L line chart
• Scatter 3D: X/Y/Z Axis, Bubble Size, Bubble Color
• Heatmap Calendar: Choose a metric

Gainway uses a drag-resizable grid. Customize your view:

• Enter edit mode - Click the pencil (edit) icon in the top toolbar
• Add charts - Click the + button to add new chart types
• Resize - Drag chart edges
• Reorder - Drag chart headers
• Remove - Click the × on a chart

Templates: Create multiple templates for different workflows (Daily Review, Weekly Deep Dive, Monthly Summary). Templates can be exported/imported as JSON. Mark a template as a favorite (star icon) to list it in the left navigation on hover.

Layouts are saved to the database and available from any browser.

• Copy as Image - PNG to clipboard (click camera icon)
• Export Data - CSV of underlying data for the chart component (left click to view)
• Full Analytics Page Export - click the camera in the upper right
