Filtering & Date Ranges

Master Gainway's global filtering system — account selection, date ranges, trade filters (basic & advanced), display modes, and how filters affect every page and statistic in the application.

Global Filters are the primary way to slice and focus your trading data in Gainway. Every filter applies universally — across the Calendar, Daily view, Trade Log, Analytics, Charts, Cumulative P&L, Account Balance, and all statistics. When you set a filter, it immediately affects every page, chart, and metric in the application.

🔑 Key Principle: One Filter State, Everywhere

There is a single shared filter state stored in the Trades store. The Filter modal, Date Range modal, Account modal, and Account Groups dropdown all read from and write to this same state. Changing a filter in one place instantly updates all views.

Filter Categories Overview

Account Selection

How It Works+

How It Works

Account selection controls which accounts' trades are loaded into the filter pipeline.

  • Open the Account modal (toolbar → Account button).
  • Toggle the Visible switch for each account.
  • Only trades from visible accounts enter the filtered dataset.
  • Hidden accounts' trades are excluded from all views and statistics.
  • Changes persist to your profile (synced if signed in).

Tip: Use "Select All / Deselect All" at the top for bulk changes.

Account Groups Quick Select+

Account Groups Quick Select

Account Groups let you save and instantly recall sets of accounts. See Account Groups for full details.

  • Click the chevron dropdown next to the Account button in the toolbar.
  • Select a group to show only those accounts (others are hidden automatically).
  • The toolbar badge shows the active group's color.
  • Groups with showInQuickSelect = true appear here.
Impact on Data+

Impact on Data

When you change visible accounts:

  • All views refresh — Calendar, Daily, Trade Log, Analytics, Charts
  • Statistics recalculate — P&L, win rate, expectancy, drawdowns, etc.
  • Groups re-aggregate — Group/idea-level stats reflect only visible accounts
  • Charts redraw — Cumulative P&L, Account Balance, etc.

Date Range Filter

Setting a Date Range+

Setting a Date Range

  1. Click Date Range in the toolbar.
  2. Use the dual calendar to pick start and end dates (inclusive).
  3. Or click a preset button (Today, This Week, This Month, Last 30 Days, etc.).
  4. Click Apply Dates.

The active range shows as a badge on the Date Range button (yellow dot = filter active).

How Date Filtering Works+

How Date Filtering Works

  • Filter is inclusive: trades on the start date AND end date are included.
  • Uses the trade's Date field (YYYY-MM-DD in your local timezone).
  • Dual calendar P&L indicators (green/red dots) reflect the P&L on that day. Blank indicates there's no data for that day.

Trade Filters — Basic Mode

Access via toolbar → Filter button. Basic mode provides simple multi-select chips for each dimension.

Logic: How Filters Combine

  • Within a dimension: OR logic — selecting NQ and ES shows trades matching either.
  • Across dimensions: AND logic — Contract=NQ and Direction=Long shows only Long NQ trades.
  • Tags: Within a tag type (e.g., Setup), OR logic. Across tag types (Setup AND Mistake), AND logic.
Filter Templates (Basic & Advanced)+

Filter Templates (Basic & Advanced)

Save any filter combination as a Template for instant recall.

  • Click the Template menu in the Filter modal.
  • Save as… — name and store current filters.
  • Click a saved template to apply it.
  • Apply defaults — clears all filters, resets to basic mode.
  • Templates persist to your profile (synced if signed in).
  • Templates work in both Basic and Advanced modes.
Preview Counts+

Preview Counts

The Filter modal shows a live preview of how many trades/groups/ideas match your current filters:

  • Trade mode: "XXX trades"
  • Group mode: "XXX groups" (+ ungrouped row if applicable)
  • Idea mode: "XXX idea/group rows"

This updates instantly as you toggle filters — before you click Apply.

Trade Filters — Advanced Mode

Toggle the Advanced switch in the Filter modal to enable boolean logic with brackets, multiple rows, and AND/OR operators.

Advanced Filter Builder+

Advanced Filter Builder

Each row defines one condition. Rows are evaluated in order with the operator (AND/OR) between them.

ColumnPurpose
( ... ) (open/close brackets)Group rows for precedence (e.g., (A AND B) OR C)
Filter TypeSymbol, Firm, Account Type, Contract, Session, Entry Hour, Direction, Hold Time, Entry Time Minutes, Outcome, Tag Type
ConditionEquals / Does Not Equal
ValuePrimary value(s) — multi-select for most types
Value 2Secondary value for Tag Type (tag name within the selected tag type)
Entry Time MinutesMinute ranges specific to this row (for Entry Time Minutes type)
OperatorAND / OR — combines this row with the next

Example: "Morning NQ Longs OR Afternoon ES Shorts"

Row 1: ( Symbol = NQ ) AND ( Direction = Long ) AND ( Entry Hour = 09, 10, 11 )
Row 2: OR
Row 3: ( Symbol = ES ) AND ( Direction = Short ) AND ( Entry Hour = 13, 14, 15 )

Validation

  • Red warning banner appears if expression is invalid (mismatched brackets, empty required values).
  • Apply button is disabled until valid.
  • Tag Type rows require both a tag type (Value) and tag name (Value 2).
Migrating Basic → Advanced+

Migrating Basic → Advanced

When switching from Basic to Advanced, your current Basic filters are automatically converted to equivalent Advanced rows.

  • Each active Basic dimension becomes one Advanced row.
  • Multiple values within a dimension become a single row with multiple Values.
  • Operator defaults to AND between rows.
  • You can then add brackets, change operators, add new rows.

Warning: Switching back to Basic discards Advanced-only logic (brackets, OR between rows, Does Not Equal). A confirmation dialog appears if you have unsaved Advanced changes.

Display Mode (Trade / Group / Idea)

The toolbar toggle (Alt+1 / Alt+2 / Alt+3) controls the aggregation level for all views.
